Downtown Improvement District Meetings
The Governing Board of the DID, the DID Board of Directors, is composed of five members, and each must be a commercial property owner, corporate representative, or beneficial owner who is subject to the ad valorem tax assessment (Ordinance 23-5463). Board members are appointed by the City Commission and serve a three-year term. DID meetings are governed by Florida’s Sunshine Law, Chapter 286, Florida Statutes. All DID Board of Directors meetings must be open to the public, with reasonable notice provided, and minutes made available for public inspection. The Sunshine Law applies whenever two or more members communicate by any medium regarding current or future board-related issues, whether formally or informally. Intentional violations of this chapter are considered a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment and/or a fine. Further, all communications relatedto the official business of the DID, including telephone call records, calendars, emails, and social media, are subject to public disclosure underFlorida’s Public Records Act, Chapter 119, Florida Statutes.
The DID typically meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM at City Hall, City Commission Chambers, 1565 1st Street, Sarasota. During these meetings, ongoing and new initiatives are discussed and voted on. These meetings are open to the public and allow for public comment. Upcoming scheduled meetings:
